Southwest Airlines presents a $50,000 check
Southwest Airlines’ Managers in Training (MIT) presented Shared Housing with a $50,000 check! It’s a tradition for Southwest’s MIT classes to spend two workdays a year with us, from painting rooms to building a playground. This time, Classes I and II each spent a day on “makeovers.”
The first makeover turned three badly used rooms at our offices into working spaces for storage, play, and study. Our donation room, which is also our pantry, got a new layout, new shelves, and a deep cleaning. Our linen room got a thorough cleaning, new shelves, and tubs to keep things organized. And the room where toys were stashed became a real children’s area, with a TV, bean bag chairs, a Wii, and toys for children to pick out for birthdays, good grades, and more.
The second makeover was for the women in our programs: interview tips, résumé reviews, and a bus trip to Dress for Success, where every woman was pampered with a new hairdo, makeup, an outfit, shoes, a purse, and accessories. The children had their own fun with arts and crafts, dancing, beach balls, hot dogs, popcorn, and sweets. From awesome to zany, that sums up the day!
