We help people facing homelessness find a safe place to live, and the support to stand on their own.
Our mission
We offer housing and support that help people live on their own, feel strong, and know their worth. We welcome people of every culture and every age.
Our mission is to offer housing options and supportive services that foster independence, empowerment, and self-worth and to serve a multicultural, intergenerational population.
Today we work to break the cycle of homelessness and housing instability for people and families in our community, through housing and support that encourage independence, empowerment, and a stronger sense of self-worth.
Who we serve
Since 1984, we have offered housing and services to people at high risk of losing their homes, and helped them move from homelessness, or the edge of it, toward a life where they can support themselves:
- Single parents with young children
- Older adults
- Families of every kind
- People with special needs
Our two core services, Homeshare and our transitional, intergenerational Group Residence, give people supportive places to live where they grow and help each other. Green Haus, our newest community, adds permanent supportive housing.
Our history
Shared Housing Center began in 1984 as a joint program of the Brady Center and the Center for Housing Resources, and became an independent nonprofit in 1987. In 2000 we bought our own headquarters in Deep Ellum, and in 2014 we broke ground on Green Haus in East Dallas, where our offices moved in 2022.
