Donors and Support

Shared Housing Center has an annual operating budget of approximately $500,000.00. Our income is generated by a variety of methods, including grant writing, special events (fundraising events), corporate, business, churches, synagogues, and individual solicitations. Historically, our funds come from the following sources:

Please keep in mind that we assist approximately 100 families through our services at a given time. The majority of our clients come to our homes having to abandon their worldly possessions. We assist them with groceries, bus passes, clothes, and all sorts of household items and furniture.

All donated items we receive are distributed among our families. Any excess is stored for future families and their needs.

  • Participate in our Annual fundraising events (click here for details);
  • Direct Contribution: send a check or money order (no amount is too small);
  • Tom Thumb/Randall’s Grocery – submit an application for the good neighbor program and give our number #4777. Every time you shop and show the card a small percentage is tagged to our charity. Easy enough!
  • Kroger Grocery – same concept but you need to call us for the card. Every time you shop the card is scanned and a small percentage is earmarked for our charity.
  • Convince your friends and family to give to our agency in honor of your next birthday, family anniversary, or family memorials.
  • Combined Federal Campaign of Metropolitan Dallas (State Employee Charitable Campaign or City of Dallas Charitable Campaign) – designate our agency during the campaign drive at your office.
  • Designate our agency during your United Way Campaign drive – although we are not a United Way agency you can designate us and we will receive your contribution, less the United Way administrative/processing fees.
  • Convince your place of work to charge a small fee for the next holiday party or annual picnic and donate the fees. Everyone will feel good about this one!
  • Convince your place of work to hold a special event – golf tournament, grand opening, company anniversary and designate our agency as the beneficiary.

We also offer special activities throughout the year. So stay alert. We have our own enterprises such as selling chances for airline tickets and sending holiday cards to everyone on your holiday mailing list all within reasonable rates!

Not into the money thing? Ok, what about collecting in-kind materials and goods. Consider some of the following options:

  • Have a canned food drive;
  • Coordinate a school supplies drive;
  • Recruit your office colleagues to purchase gift certificates ($5.00 and $10.00 denominations) to neighborhood grocery stores, pharmacies and discount stores
  • Designate a specific month for shoes, underwear, socks, coats, caps, collection drive;
  • Collect arts & crafts supplies, books, toys for the children;
  • Have a spring (or any other season) cleaning – drop off clothes, linens, towels, dishes, pots, pans, to our office;
  • Announce a toiletry or cleaning product collection drive at your office.
